
Fathers & Sons
The father and son archetype represent the male life force able to fertilize creation. They provide a biological connection between offspring and parent. He acts as authority. His son(s) perform according to his will with, almost, blind loyalty. Although, the father, generally, lacks the intimacy of maternal relationships, he is both loved and feared.

Kings & Judges
Kings emphasize an obligation to directing the world of humankind. They maintain the order and progress of society. He is responsible for the welfare of humanity in everyday terms. During his reign, he relies on law and principle to achieve security. Often, his status affords him lavish ornamentation. Much like kings, the judge figure also serves to enact justice and uphold righteousness.

Saviors and Sages
The savior is the sacrificial character who brings humanity closer to God/ the divine and away from evil. He may act as a vessel for the transmittance of divine truth. Both saviors and sages guide humanity towards something bigger. However, the sage embodies the ultimate human form. The sage submits, entirely, to the divine. Therefore, he holds a wisdom that surpasses the average individual.

Tricksters and Shamans
This archetype includes wizards/magicians and makers of mischief. Shamans are able to see what others cannot. Often, they are granted passage “from the material world into the spiritual…and back” (Leonard & McClure 201). After his journey, he shares his knowledge and gains with humanity. Specifically, the trickster represents the co-mingling of good and evil that exists in reality. They are founded on paradox and intricacies.

Lords of Destruction and the Underworld
These lords represent the darker forces involved in the cycle of life. They control the miseries of the world to maintain balance. Although, sometimes, they are characterized as relentless or blood thirsty beings. Some figures of the category reign over unwelcoming and uninhabitable realms. Death, destruction, famine, suffering, and so on are part of their realm. Generally, they are feared and humans try to avoid them.
